Watch out for Social Security scams

Scammers pretend to be Social Security. Here is what the real agency will never do.

Watch out for scams

  • Scammers pretend to be from SSA or its Inspector General. They may already know some of your personal information.
  • SSA and the Inspector General will never ask you to move money to 'protect' it, meet you to hand over cash, or pay with gift cards, crypto currency, or gold bars. They will never tell you to keep it secret.
  • Report Social Security scams to the SSA Inspector General online.
