Documents you may need
- The online upload accepts items such as a government photo ID, proof of Social Security number, and proof of address or ownership; what you need depends on your claim.
- If your name changed: a marriage certificate, divorce decree, adoption papers or name-change certificate.
Money owed to a relative who died
If the owner has died, the nearest living relative or heir, or the court-appointed executor or personal representative, can claim. Relatives claim in the order of the Uniform Probate Code's line of kinship: surviving spouse, children, grandchildren, parents, brothers and sisters, then nieces and nephews. Send a copy of the death certificate for every deceased owner on the account (photocopies are fine), proof that you are the nearest living relative or heir or the personal representative, and the will if there was one.

Finder fees in Idaho
An agreement with a finder to locate your property is void if it is signed before 24 months have passed since the property was turned over to the state. The law sets no percentage cap on the fee. The rule does not apply to an attorney you hire to pursue a specific claim.
Law: Idaho Code § 14-5-1301 (added 2024)
Claiming is free. Your state never charges a fee to search or to claim. Be careful with letters, calls or texts that ask for a fee, a percentage or your bank login to release money. Search the official state site yourself.
Good to know
- Idaho holds unclaimed money forever, so there is no deadline to claim.
- Most property is considered abandoned after five years of inactivity, but wages and utility deposits become unclaimed after just one year.
