Lemon law notice letter

Most state lemon laws require you to notify the manufacturer in writing and give it a final chance to repair the car. Send this letter to the manufacturer (the address is in your owner's manual or warranty booklet), not just the dealer.

Tips

  • Choose your state in the form: the letter then names your state's lemon law and uses the mailing method that law requires (for example, Florida requires registered or express mail). Otherwise send it by certified mail with return receipt, and keep the receipt.
  • Attach copies of every repair order. Keep the originals.
  • Check your state's page for any special notice rule, such as a deadline or a specific form.
  • Keep driving records: dates, mileage and days the car was in the shop.
