South Dakota property tax appeals by county
The county assessor sets a value for every home in the county. Each county also has a Director of Equalization, who explains how values were set. Appeals start with a local board of equalization (a township or city board), or with the county board in unorganized territory, which has no local board. Some areas combine the local and county boards into one consolidated board. Appeals not resolved at the first level go to the county board of equalization.
